This year’s Buchanan Area Senior Center Annual Appeal targeted the purchase of a new vehicle for our medical transportation program. Thanks to the generosity of the many senior patrons, businesses, and organizations who supported this effort, we were able to purchase the vehicle at the end of September.

Dear BASC Patrons, Staff and public,

We are pleased to report that we are on track to reopen the BASC on Monday, October 19th. As you know, a teammember had close prolonged contact with a COVID-19 positive person. This did NOT occur at the BASC facility, and the teammember is quarantining at home for 2 weeks. All teammembers have tested negative for the coronavirus, and our cleaning service is going room by room to sanitize our facility. This all means we plan to reopen next Monday, 10/19. We thank you for your patience as we take the steps necessary to ensure the health and safety of our patrons. The programs that were in operation prior to our closure on 10/12 will recommence next week. Please contact us if you have any questions and we look forward to seeing you back at the BASC next week.

Executive Director

We promote    physical, social and mental well-being

Buchan an Area Senior Center is a community focal point on aging, where area older adults come together for services, programs and activities that reflect their experiences and skills, respond to their diverse needs and interests, enhance their dignity, support their independence and encourage their involvement with the community and this daytime senior community center.  The Center is a nonprofit organization dedicated to serving older adults living in Buchanan City, Buchanan Township and Niles Township west of the US31 Bypass, Bertrand Township, Galien Township east of Cleveland Ave.  Membership is free and most services are provided at no cost, however contributions are greatly appreciated

Buchanan Area Senior Center provides a complete facility, a friendly and efficient staff, and active volunteers that enhance the quality of life of seniors in our community. We offer programs and services designed to promote physical, social, and mental well-being, including exercise, recreation, and crafts, as well as Senior Nutrition Services, food commodities, and a Senior Community Garden.

Senior Centers offer the opportunity for older people to stay connected, informed, and actively engaged in charting their own course in the self-management of chronic conditions, long term care, health maintenance, and as contributing members of the community through civic engagement and volunteer opportunities

Currently the Center is supported by county millage, a transportation grant from Region IV Area Agency on Aging, contributions, fundraising projects, pledges and many wonderful volunteers who we greatly appreciated.
